August 26, 2009. Columbia, Missouri.
The National Center for Soybean Biotechnology (NCSB) at the University of Missouri hosted a group of soybean industrial leaders and soybean processors from Japan. This international group visit was sponsored by the United States Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and the American Soybean Association (ASA) International Marketing group in Tokyo, Japan. Members of the Nguyen Laboratory, Theresa Musket, Tri Vuong, and Babu Valliyodan, conducted tours of the Christopher S. Bond Life Sciences Center, the Sears Plant Growth Facility, and the National Center for Soybean Biotechnology which included the facilities involved in molecular breeding research that is being conducted by the NCSB. The group also visited the Missouri Soybean Association’s World Headquarters in Jefferson City, Missouri, and met with Dale R. Ludwig, the executive director/CEO. While touring the Missouri River bottom farm of Mr. Kelly Forck, current president of the Missouri Soybean Association; the group witnessed identity-preserved soybean production and enhanced storage systems. The purpose of the trip was to increase awareness of soybean research in the United States and how it impacts the millions of bushels of soybeans that Japan imports from the United States per year.
